What Is Gum Recession?
Gum recession refers to the loss of gum tissue along the gumline. This can occur as a result of
periodontal disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, advanced periodontitis), the natural aging process, or
abrasive habits when it comes to brushing the teeth.
Why Should Gum Recession Be Taken Seriously?
When gum recession occurs, the root structure of the tooth becomes exposed. This means that tooth
decay and other problems can affect the teeth along the gumline and beneath it. Since healthy gums are
essential for a healthy mouth, getting gum recession treated is important for lasting dental wellness.
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) is a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for correcting gum recession. Through a small hole made by a needle, the use of specially designed instruments gently loosen the gum tissue and glide it over the receded part of the tooth. Since there is no cutting or stitching, patients can expect minimal post-operative symptoms (pain, swelling, and bleeding). Most patients also are pleasantly surprised by the instant cosmetic improvement.
In the past, the only treatment for gum recession was skin grafting and sutures. In that procedure, donor tissue, or soft tissue, is used to rebuild the gum line. This method can be painful and takes a long recovery time and the scars and cuts are visible even longer.
Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique can be used as an alternative method to treat the receding gums. In this process, instead of several cuts and sutures for grafting donor tissue with the existing gum line, a needle is used to make a pinhole in the gum. After that, dental instruments that are specially shaped for this procedure are inserted in the gum through this pinhole to pull it back on the teeth to cover it.
Benefits of Chao Pinhole Surgical Treatment
There are many benefits of treating gum recession by Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique as oppose to the traditional grafting procedure.
1. Fast Recovery Time
As opposed to the traditional grafting surgery, in Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, it takes less time to recover from the surgery. Further, you experience lesser pain, swelling, and bleeding. In addition, the wounds heal faster and your gum line looks normal in minimal time.
2. Natural Looking Smile
As the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique makes pinholes in the existing gum line instead of grafting donor tissues with the gum line, there are no stitches or sutures in this procedure. This not only results in faster healing that but also makes the surgical point difficult to distinguish only after a day. Thus, it gives you an aesthetically pleasing and normal looking appearance.
3. Treatment for Multiple Teeth in One Session
Before Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique, if your gums were receding form multiple teeth it was necessary to undergo multiple grafting procedures to treat them. But not anymore, as you can have your receding gums treated in a single session. It reduces the time that is spent in the multiple traditional surgical sessions and recovery.
Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique technique is very effective in treating gum recession with minimal surgical and recovery time with pronounced results. However, you should make sure to consult the doctor which is certified to do this procedure because not every doctor is qualified to perform this surgical treatment.
